MUTUAL PROTECT
Protect Your Property From Theft
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have joined forces with Ontario's Farm Mutual Insurance companies to create the Mutual Protect Program. Local police are focussing their efforts on the prevention of theft by encouraging people to have their property permanently linked to them through a reborn and revamped identification program.
Through the program, area Farm Mutual companies have donated engravers, pamphlets and stickers to local OPP detachments. People are being encouraged to visit their nearest detachment or Farm Mutual Company to borrow an engraver in order to mark their valuable property.
Theft claims are the fastest growing problem for insurance companies. Use an engraver to write your license plate number on personal property that is likely to be stolen. Your licence plate number is traceable directly to you, even if the plate is destroyed or stolen.
Engrave your identification on articles such as electronic equipment, power tools, outboard motors, mowers, chainsaws, snowmobiles, and recreational equipment such as skis and skates.
Return the engraver and you will be supplied with free Mutual Protect window stickers that will let thieves know that your home is off limits.
Lennox and Addington Mutual Fire Insurance Company has supplied engravers to OPP detachments in Napanee, Kaladar, South Frontenac, Sharbot Lake, Westport and Verona. Brokers in Kingston, Gananoque, Elgin and Westport and all of our Company Agents have a supply of engravers for your use.
Remember that the OPP agree that this method of identification will be invaluable in reuniting stolen property with its rightful owners.
Over $700,000 in property was stolen from customers of the Lennox and Addington Mutual in the past four years. Less than $2,000 worth of property was returned to the rightful owners.
